Job summary

Arc Boat Company in Los Angeles is electrifying the marine industry with new propulsion platforms for tug, ferry, and defense vessels. This role designs propulsion and drivetrain systems and collaborates with naval architects on hull-to-machinery integration.

You will own thermal and fluid systems, run structural and thermal analyses, and oversee bench, dock, and on-water tests, turning data into design changes. Travel up to 15% and close collaboration with manufacturing and suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3+ years designing and releasing mechanical systems for production, ideally on vessels or vehicles.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA) and PDM/PLM workflows.
  • Ability to own a design through build, test, and iteration; capable of sea trials.

Responsibilities

  • Design propulsion and drivetrain systems including shafting, mounts, seals, bearings, and steering hardware.
  • Collaborate with naval architects on hull-to-machinery integration and interfaces.
  • Own thermal and fluid systems across the vessel, including cooling loops, pumps, plumbing, bilge, and ventilation.
  • Run structural and thermal analysis to size and validate components before they get built.
  • Build and execute test plans on the bench, at the dock, and on the water, then turn data into design changes.
  • Release drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and specifications, and drive DFM/DFA with manufacturing and supply chain.
  • Partner with electrical and controls engineers to integrate Arc's powertrain into the vessel.
  • Support USCG, ABS compliance and evaluating suppliers for critical marine hardware.
  • Up to 15% travel.
