The City of Albemarle is seeking Electric Line Technicians II and III, individuals who will perform skilled technical work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical distribution lines. Electric Line Technician II (Intermediate Line Tech)
Annual pay range: $49,320 - $76,400*
Electric Line Technician III (Senior Line Tech)
Annual pay range: $54,380 - $84,300*
*Starting rates depend upon education and experience.
Scope of Role:
Performs skilled technical work assisting in the construction, maintenance and repair of underground and overhead lines in the electrical distribution system.
Performs skilled technical work in the installation, maintenance and repair of underground and overhead electrical distribution lines and in tree trimming and related line clearance work. Work is differentiated from journeyman level crew members by the less skilled phases of electrical distribution work. The employee is also responsible for the operation of various trucks and equipment such as line trucks, cable trucks, backhoes, and bucket trucks, and for answering calls for service to hook up and discontinue service. The employee works closely with the Electric Crew Leader to repair, splice and maintain electric overhead and underground distribution lines, transformers and services. and works in both energized and de-energized environments. The employee is expected to perform line tech level work, and to observe and perform skilled electrical distribution work under supervision of the Electric Crew Leader.The Senior Electric Line Technician supervises in the Electric Line Crew Leader’s absence. The employee is subject to on-call status for one week in a stand-by rotation.The employee applies standardized techniques and safety standards in daily work operation. Work requires being on-call for one week in a standby rotation as well as call-back responsibilities. The employee is subject to hazards associated with electrical work including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme temperatures, and exposure to various hazards such as working at heights, loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, confined spaces, poor ventilation, and oils. Work is performed under supervision of the Electric Line Crew Leader and is evaluated through periodic conferences, observation of results achieved, and is reviewed in progress and upon completion for conformance to instructions and accepted standards.
