Job summary

New-Leader-Manufacturing is seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist to ensure safety and environmental compliance at the Cedar Rapids facility. You will collect data, consolidate reports, and support program development across the organization.

The role emphasizes incident investigations, training development, audits, and regulatory responses to enable a safe manufacturing environment. Bachelor’s degree in HSE and 3+ years’ experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational HSE discipline, Science or Engineering with a minimum of three (3) years of safety experience in a manufacturing environment is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Functional safety knowledge in regulatory requirements, safety technical aspects (safety, industrial hygiene, environmental), risk management, behavior-based safety, training, regulatory agency enforcement.
  • Experience in metal fabrication and/or equipment manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Professional Safety certification or the desire to attain certification (CIH, CSP, CHMM, etc.)
  • Above-average skills with MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint;
  • Experience with productivity and flow charting/process documentation tools;
  • Strong data analysis abilities.
  • Outstanding communication skills including: one-on-one communication with employees at all levels; presenting to groups; writing (e.g. correspondence, policies, training, etc.).
  • Ability to persuade, influence, and lead others.
  • Problem-solving including ability to analyze problems, processes, and situations and examine wide range of possible solutions.
  • Analytical abilities – e.g. can apply legal, technical, and other concepts to real-life situations; can effectively use data and other tools to answer questions and solve problems.
  • Able to handle multiple priorities, projects, and heavy work load effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Manages workers compensation cases and supports effective injury/illness case management and return-to-work programs.
  • Drives safety communications related to safety metrics, goals, audits, incidents, and policy updates throughout the organization.
  • Participates in review of new and modified processes, equipment, and environment to ensure safety hazards are recognized and controls implemented.
  • Manages response to regulatory compliance activities, including on-site inspections and notices of violation.
  • Facilitates engagement of appropriate individuals to assist with program development and maintenance; clarifies roles and plans.
  • Ensures timely completion of goals/projects and cooperative work ethic.
  • Follows safety procedures and SAFESTART concepts and accountability.
