Job summary

JLL in Princeton, NJ is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to develop and implement comprehensive EH&S programs across multiple facilities. You’ll guide site management, ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other regulations, and drive continuous improvement in safety practices.

You will lead incident investigations, manage safety training, and support contractor safety, learning, and development of a positive safety culture within a dynamic commercial real estate

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of EHS compliance experience with facilities operations.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, ASME regulatory requirements.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and influence stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with CMMS and safety reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive EH&S programs and initiatives to meet regulatory requirements and promote accountability.
  • Support and manage EHS programs including inspections, audits, and training across the account.
  • Conduct risk assessments and support audits by clients, corporate teams, and regulators.
  • Provide and coordinate safety training (train the trainer) and safety committee activities.
  • Monitor, report, and improve EH&S metrics; ensure accurate OSHA logs and incident reporting.
  • Assist with SafeStart program and industrial hygiene tasks as needed.

What this job involves:

Join JLL as an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist in Princeton, NJ, where you'll play a critical role in developing, documenting, and implementing comprehensive EH&S programs that protect personnel, property, and ensure business continuity across multiple facilities. This position requires a strategic safety professional who can design and execute systematic plans for daily EH&S management and continuous improvement while providing guidance and support to site management, program owners, and personnel to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. You'll serve as the subject matter expert on state and local EH&S regulations, Critical Performance Indicators, and Key Performance Indicators related to customer expectations, working collaboratively across all organizational levels to build a positive safety culture and drive employee participation and accountability. What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive EH&S programs and initiatives that comply with regulatory requirements and promote employee participation and accountability including contractor safety, isolation of hazardous energy, chemical management, emergency procedures, and safety committee teams, while providing guidance and advice on EH&S management at all levels on the account and ensuring programs comply with regulatory, client, and company requirements.

  • Support and manage JLL and client EHS programs including fire suppression preventative maintenance inspections, industrial hygiene sampling, respirator fit testing, environmental inspections (hazardous wastes, spill prevention, etc.), participate and/or lead monthly safety meetings with facility team members, and participate and/or lead site safety committee program to promote and develop a positive Environmental, Health and Safety culture at all levels throughout the account.

  • Conduct and review risk assessments related to jobs performed (ex: JHA's - Job Hazard Analyses), support site during audits from client, corporate, EH&S staff as well as outside agencies and insurance representatives, ensure programs are in place and manage third party suppliers/vendors using 3rd party contractor management system (ISNetworld) leveraging contractor safety leads to assist, and ensure work orders in CMMS (Maximo) system are reviewed and completed on time.

  • Conduct facility Field Observations with maintenance team to ensure compliance with policies and programs, provide direct support to JLL employees on industry EH&S compliance as well as site specific client compliance or site-specific operating requirements, manage all aspects of EH&S training from reporting, tracking, and developing to the account, and provide safety training (train the trainer) to ensure that facility teams receive required training including Confined Space Awareness training, Powered Industrial Truck, Fall Protection Awareness training, and Lockout Tagout Training.

  • Oversee the tracking and monitoring of EH&S performance metrics and assist with managing all EH&S reporting, ensure incidents/accidents/near misses are entered in reporting systems on time, ensure KPIs are maintained, OSHA logs are accurate, and all incidents and injuries are escalated on time, support and assist sites with root cause investigations and near miss presentations, and conduct Health and Safety System inspections and audit workplace standards and activities.

  • Support behavioral based safety training program (SafeStart), ensure safety equipment is calibrated on an annual PM, maintain daily, weekly, and monthly metrics, and fulfill emergency response responsibilities and industrial hygiene-related tasks such as fit testing, IAQ investigations, noise surveys, and some PPE management.

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with EHS compliance and management systems preferably within facility operations, with knowledge of or willingness to learn regulatory requirements that apply to facilities management (OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, ASME, etc.) and demonstrated understanding of compliance frameworks and their practical application.

  • Knowledge of safety requirements, fundamentals of safety education, industrial safety, risk management, and the application of data automation to the safety function, along with working knowledge of basic industrial hygiene techniques and principles for hazard identification, exposure assessment, and control implementation.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with ability to work well with others at all levels and across organizations, must be able to get results through others without having direct reports, and ability to work well with minimal supervision demonstrating self-motivation and independent judgment.

  • Good work ethic and interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders, and promote safety culture across diverse teams and organizational levels in a collaborative, professional manner.

  • Proficient in basic computer applications and software such as MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, and ability to learn and utilize CMMS systems (Maximo), reporting platforms, and third party contractor management systems (ISNetworld) for program management and compliance tracking.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • College degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field demonstrating formal education and technical foundation in EH&S principles and regulatory compliance.

  • EHS experience in biopharmaceutical, research or maintenance operations environments with understanding of unique regulatory requirements, hazard profiles, and operational protocols in these specialized settings.

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or equivalent credentials demonstrating advanced technical competency and commitment to professional development.

  • Experience conducting root cause investigations, incident analysis, and implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to drive continuous improvement and prevent recurring safety incidents.

  • Familiarity with behavioral-based safety programs such as SafeStart, proven track record of training delivery and "train the trainer" program implementation, and experience managing safety committee programs that engage employees and promote proactive hazard identification and risk reduction.

Estimated compensation for this position:

75,000.00 - 90,000.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
