Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety Manager to lead safety and regulatory programs in a lean manufacturing setting. The role focuses on compliance, incident investigation, training, and continuous improvement across the facility.

You will drive risk reduction, develop emergency plans, conduct audits, and coordinate with leadership to implement corrective actions. This position emphasizes data-driven safety management and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years in an environmental health and safety role in a lean manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in Lockout/Tag out programs and machine guarding.
  • Experience with forklift training.
  • Proven experience managing and implementing projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental, health, and safety laws, regulations, and standards (OSHA, EPA).
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and associated safety hazards.
  • Training and facilitation experience and capability.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively convey complex safety concepts to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulations within the facility.
  • Lead safety programs and provide direction for the facility while coordinating with Corporate EHS.
  • Develop and implement incident response plans and procedures, investigate incidents, and drive corrective actions.
  • Oversee safety training, risk assessments, audits, and monthly EHS metrics reporting.
  • Collaborate with management to continuously improve processes using lean and 5S/CI methodologies.
  • Manage external agencies for safety inspections and maintain documentation and records.

Job description

  • Compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety Regulations
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards related to environmental health and safety within the facility
  • Manage federal, state, and local outside agencies for routine safety inspections
  • Lead local safety and environmental programs and provide direction for facility
  • Stay up to date on federal, state, and local regulations related to environmental health and safety and advise management on emerging trends and changes in regulations, assisting in the implementation of necessary measures to maintain compliance
  • Develop and oversee incident response plans and procedures
  • Investigate accidents, near misses, and other safety incidents to identify root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
  • Ensure proper onsite management and offsite disposal of solid, universal, and hazardous wastes to protect air and water quality and comply with applicable regulations
  • Conduct daily activities including incident review, risk assessment, action item tracking, reporting, 5S/CI events, classroom & virtual training and project tracking
  • Working with Corporate EHS Director to implement enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Manage local Safety and Environmental programs and provide direction for each facility
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits for the facility to assess compliance with safety regulations and internal policies; provide recommendations and guidance for corrective actions as needed
  • Develop and implement safety protocols, policies, and procedures to mitigate risks and hazards in the workplace
  • Collaborate with management to develop and maintain emergency response plans. Conduct drills and exercises to assess the effectiveness of emergency protocols and ensure employees are prepared
  • Drive closure of recommendations to reduce identified risks
  • Establish and implement facility and organizational safety communications to ensure employees are aware of potential hazards and safety initiatives
  • Develop, deliver, and track environmental and safety training, increase awareness and drive safety practices
  • Maintain exact records and documentation related to safety programs, incidents, inspections, and training activities
  • Develop, manage, and check monthly metrics and audits for EHS/CI
  • Prepare reports and presentations on safety and continuous improvement performance, trends, and recommendations for management
  • Regularly communicate with leadership on projects, ongoing issues, and opportunities to reduce risk and waste
  • Apply Lean principles to EHS - standard work, layered process audits
  • Act as a change agent across the network
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes, equipment, machinery and material flow to identify potential risk as it relates to safety
  • Champion initiatives that identify and communicate facility risk exposure and prioritize risk reduction needs
  • Manage and support corporate EHS safety board and safety recognition programs
  • Support facility-wide continuous improvement and lead management of change efforts to ensure changes are done safely

  • Strong PC skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including the ability to develop summary graphs, tables, pivot tables, and other reports using PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies and lean manufacturing principles
