Job summary

Westlake Chemical seeks a Safety Specialist to support implementation of safety initiatives, training, auditing and technical support across assigned facilities in Columbus. The role focuses on incident prevention, OSHA compliance, hazard assessments and promoting a strong safety culture through coaching and collaboration.

The position requires a BS degree in Business, Environmental or Safety Management or related field and at least 1 year of experience, with strong communication and MS Office

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to develop training and train employees on safety related subjects.
• Knowledge of Federal, State, fire safety, ANSI standards and Workers' Compensation laws.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Support incident prevention and OSHA compliance programs.
• Audit facilities for conformance to safety policies.
• Assist in implementing Accident Prevention Plan and health and safety procedures.
• Conduct hazard assessments and recommend solutions.
• Lead projects from start to finish to meet department goals.
• Support plant corrective actions from root cause analyses.
• Consult with plant management to support safety culture and needs.
• Review process changes to ensure safety compliance.
• Investigate incidents and near misses thoroughly.
• Train plant personnel on safety policies and onboarding.
• Coordinate with officials during inspections and resolve issues.
