Job summary

Republic Services is seeking a Safety Specialist in Indianapolis to ensure workplace compliance with EHS regulations. You will audit, train, and develop safety plans while identifying hazards to protect employee health and the environment, aligning with regulations and internal EHS programs.

The role involves investigating incidents, supporting EHS data collection, and coordinating inspections to uphold a culture of safety and regulatory adherence across the division.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of EHS regulations and compliance.
• Knowledge of the waste industry or a subscription-based industry is preferred.
• Knowledge of safety management systems and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to conduct risk assessments and hazard analysis.
• Proficient in developing and managing injury/illness case management programs.
• Familiarity with investigating incidents and using root cause analysis techniques.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to influence in a highly matrixed environment.
• Attention to detail and ability to drive projects to completion within timelines.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations for the area.
• Develop and implement EHS programs and training.
• Assist in data collection, inspections, and reporting for environmental permits and compliance.
• Lead incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
• Coordinate inspections and employee testing; ensure documentation is clear and concise.
• Collaborate with operations to advance EHS goals and safety culture.
