Job summary

Amgen in Cambridge, MA is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Manager to lead site contractor safety and high-hazard work programs at the Cambridge process development site. You will provide leadership across laboratories, facilities, engineering, and contractors to identify and manage risk and strengthen safety controls.

The role blends field engagement with program ownership, translating EHS requirements into practical site processes, coaching teams, and driving continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Masters degree
• Bachelors degree + 2 years of Sci Tech - EH&S experience
• Associates degree + 6 years of Sci Tech - EH&S experience
• High school diploma / GED + 8 years of Sci Tech - EH&S experience

Responsibilities

• Lead site contractor safety oversight in partnership with Facilities and Engineering; review planned work, risk assessments, permits, training, and readiness before work begins.
• Own and maintain assigned site programs for high hazard work including contractor management, confined space, hot work, line breaking, LOTO, fall protection, machine guarding, portable equipment safety.
• Interpret and apply Amgen standards, federal and MA requirements; identify gaps and document decisions in systems.
• Participate in contractor project planning and change review; ensure EHS considerations are addressed early for construction and non‑routine work.
• Conduct field visits, inspections, and risk‑based audits; engage workers and supervisors in safety conversations.
• Provide guidance, training, and coaching on hazard recognition, permit requirements, and EHS programs.
• Support incident response, investigation, causal learning, and corrective action follow-up; share learnings.
• Maintain program documentation, training records, permits, metrics; analyze trends for improvements.
• Build partnerships across labs, facilities, security, and contractor orgs; represent site in reviews.
• Contribute to EHS governance, risk management, emergency preparedness, and continuous improvement.
