Job summary

Gateway Recruiting is seeking an EHS Manager to develop and implement policies to improve environmental, health, and safety performance, ensuring compliance with current and future regulations, and protecting the organization's reputation. You will lead a small EHS team, manage budgets, coordinate audits, and train staff while balancing business needs with EHS requirements.

This role requires a Bachelor's degree in safety or related field and 5–12 years of EHS experience, including supervisory

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Environmental Science or related field.
  • Five to twelve years of EHS experience are required.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Must have sound judgment, problem-solving, strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and internal standards.
  • Lead and coach environmental staff and set performance goals.
  • Develop and implement site EHS strategic plans.
  • Balance business needs with EHS requirements.
  • Drive EHS performance, reduce risk, and support other functions.
  • Communicate EHS performance to site leadership.
  • Prepare for and coordinate internal audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Identify and manage EHS projects within budget and timeline.
  • Prepare/coordinate reports for regulatory submissions.
  • Ensure facility meets EHS targets and budget.
  • Develop EHS training programs.
  • Maintain relationships with community and stakeholders.
  • Stay abreast of proposed EHS regulations and ensure readiness.

Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The EHS Manager will implement, oversee, and adapt policies and programs to improve the organization's environmental, health and safety performance and objectives, ensure it complies with current and applicable future regulations and standards, and protect its reputation.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • As the EHS Subject Matter Expert, this role will be able to work independently and ensure organization complies with relevant regulations and internal standards/policies.

  • Manage environmental staff including coach, promote professional development, and set/evaluate performance goals.

  • Develop and implement site EHS Strategic Plan that supports Division/Corporate Plan.

  • Able to balance business needs with EHS requirements.

  • Drive EHS performance, reduce site Risk Profile, and provide EHS support to other functional areas.

  • Communicate EHS performance to Site Leadership.

  • Prepare for and coordinate internal audits and regulatory inspections.

  • Identify options for special EHS projects and manage/execute in a timely manner and within budget.

  • Prepare/coordinate reports for internal and external regulatory submissions.

  • Ensure facility meets Division EHS targets and objectives.

  • Develop EHS training programs.

  • Maintain relationships with the community, environmental groups, and stakeholders impacted by the EHS performance of the organization.

  • Stay abreast of proposed EHS regulations, assess impact of draft proposals on the business, and ensure facility readiness to comply with promulgated laws. Benchmark with peer companies.

  • Develop and meet EHS Department budget.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required:


  • Bachelor’s Degree (± 16 years) in Safety, Health, Environmental Science, Technical or a related discipline.


Experience/Background:


  • Five to twelve years of experience in environmental, health and safety are required.

  • A minimum of two years of supervisory experience is required.

  • Must possess sound judgment and problem-solving skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal and consulting skills, good organizational and computer skills, consistent customer orientation and a multi-disciplinary function.

  • Responsible for initiation, prioritization and assignment of EHS projects within the facility.

  • Responsible for the overall EHS performance of the facility.

  • Coordinates the investigation of serious accidents.

  • Accountable for internal and external audits and inspections.

  • Accountable for the facility EHS plan, site EHS procedure accuracy, effectiveness and implementation.
