Priority Dispatch Corp. in Mississippi seeks a dedicated teacher assistant to support Head Start classrooms.

You will assist teaching staff in planning and implementing daily activities, supervise children, and help create a positive, structured learning environment for three- and four-year-olds. Requirements include a GED or high school diploma with postsecondary coursework in Early Childhood Education, strong communication and listening skills, and typically one year of preschool classroom

Qualifications

  • GED/High School Diploma minimum with post high school coursework in Early Childhood Education/Development desirable.
  • Demonstrated classroom ability with typically one year preschool classroom experience or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills, especially listening and writing.
  • Knowledge of behaviors/expectations of 3- and 4-year-olds with at least one year of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teaching staff in planning and implementing daily classroom activities and educational programs.
  • Act as substitute teacher assistant when needed and attend trainings and staff meetings.
  • Provide individualized support to children during small group and one-on-one activities.
  • Maintain safety protocols and active supervision at all times.
  • Monitor children’s health and well-being and report concerns promptly.
  • Maintain attendance records and participate in parent activities.

Job description

Be accessible to all centers as needed upon request by Center Director, Assistant Center Director,or other supervisory staff.Serve as acting teacher assistant in the absence of teacher assistance or when required or needed.Attend all required orientation, pre-service, in-service trainings, and staff meetings.Assist teaching staff in planning and implementing daily classroom activities and educational programs.Help each child develop a positive self-image, relationship, and trust.Participate in ongoing observation and assessment of children to support individualized learning plans to meet their needs.Support smooth classroom transitions (arrival, meals, rest time, and departure) to ensure consistency and structure for children.Active supervision of children at all times, ensuring safety protocols.Help to maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios at all times.Provide individualized support to children during small group and one-on-one activities.Reinforce classroom rules, routines, and positive behavior expectations using appropriate guidance techniques.Learn and comply with the Head Start Performance Standards, Mississippi licensing requirements and the guidelines of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).Learn and comply with State and Federal observation instruments (ITERS,ECERS).Work closely with agency’s staff, parents, volunteers and community to foster coordinated and integrated program services.Monitor children’s health and well-being, reporting any concerns or incidents to teaching staff or supervisors immediately.Maintain accurate children’s records including attendance documentation.Participate in Parent Committee meetings and program activities.Complete a minimum of 15 annual training hours in Early Childhood Education or related fields.Support and interpret Head Start/EHS learning objectives, goals, and concepts to child, parent and community.Assist with classroom duties, including cleaning, organizing, and sanitation.Flexible work hours and center placement.Maintain playground safety by conducting playground checks and monitoringGED/High School Diploma minimum with post high school educational coursework in Early Childhood Education/Development highly desirable.Demonstrated classroom ability, typically one year pre-school classroom experience or equivalent.Strong communications skills, especially good listening & writing skills.Knowledge of typical behaviors/expectations of three- and four-year-old children typically gained through a minimum of one year of relevant experience
