Job summary

Priority Dispatch Corp. in Kosciusko, MS is seeking an Entry-level Teacher Assistant to support classroom activities in Head Start settings. You will assist teaching staff, monitor safety, help with daily routines, and foster positive relationships with children and families.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED and the CDA credential within two years. Prior Head Start or childcare familiarity is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Must obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential with Infant/Toddler and Preschool endorsements within two years of hire.
• Current or former Head Start parent or childcare provider who is familiar with Head Start preferred.

Responsibilities

• Be accessible to all centers as needed by supervisors.
• Serve as acting teacher assistant in the absence of teacher assistance.
• Attend orientation, pre-service, in-service trainings, and staff meetings.
• Assist teaching staff in planning and implementing daily classroom activities and educational programs.
• Help each child develop a positive self-image, relationship, and trust.
• Participate in ongoing observation and assessment to support individualized learning plans.
• Support smooth classroom transitions to ensure consistency and structure for children.
• Active supervision of children at all times; ensure safety protocols.
• Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios at all times.
• Provide individualized support to children during small group and one-on-one activities.
• Reinforce classroom rules, routines, and positive behavior expectations.
• Learn and comply with Head Start Performance Standards, Mississippi licensing requirements, and NAEYC guidelines.
• Learn and comply with State and Federal observation instruments (ITERS, ECERS).
• Work closely with agency staff, parents, volunteers, and community to foster coordinated services.
• Monitor children’s health and report concerns to staff or supervisors.
• Maintain accurate children’s records including attendance documentation.
• Participate in Parent Committee meetings and program activities.

• Learn and comply with the Head Start Performance Standards, Mississippi licensing requirements and the guidelines of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
• Learn and comply with State and Federal observation instruments (ITERS, ECERS).
