Job summary

The Judge Group is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Engineer near Staunton, Virginia, to lead compliance and safety programs at a manufacturing facility with a strong Lean culture. You will drive EMS and corporate safety initiatives, manage regulatory requirements, and mentor teams across operations to reduce risks, injuries, and waste while advancing continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in manufacturing.
  • At least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience in lean manufacturing and with mechanical or thermal systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead regulatory compliance and EH&S program management.
  • Develop and implement EMS improvements across facilities.
  • Coordinate Safety Assessments and Environmental Audits.
  • Promote Behavior-Based Safety to reduce at-risk actions.
  • Analyze EH&S metrics to mitigate risks and improve outcomes.

Location: Staunton, VA

Salary: $75,000.00 USD Annually - $90,000.00 USD Annually

Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Engineer

A well-established industrial manufacturer with a century-plus track record and a global footprint (11,000+ employees across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia) is looking for an EH&S Engineer to join their facility located near Staunton, VA

This is a company with a strong internal culture around continuous improvement, lean operations, and safety-first manufacturing.

The Role

This role serves as the go-to technical resource for governmental and company environmental and occupational health & safety requirements. You'll need to demonstrate leadership in Environmental Management System (EMS) and corporate Safety Program management, with a clear understanding of how EH&S fits into day-to-day business operations. A strong track record with OSHA and EPA compliance, chemical safety, sustainable environmental practices, and injury/illness prevention is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable governmental regulations and internal EH&S policies
  • Track emerging regulatory developments, assess their potential impact on the company, and build programs to achieve compliance efficiently
  • Share accountability with management to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and hit EH&S objectives
  • Provide effective internal communication on EH&S issues
  • Actively promote a Behavior-Based Safety culture focused on eliminating at-risk behaviors and unsafe conditions
  • Bring technical environmental expertise combined with knowledge of manufacturing and business processes to minimize waste
  • Apply available technology and equipment to control and mitigate air and water pollution
  • Collect, analyze, and use EH&S metrics to reduce environmental and safety risks and support company objectives
  • Provide EH&S support and expertise across multiple assigned facilities
  • Coordinate and conduct Safety Assessments and Environmental Audits, and ensure corrective and preventative measures are implemented
  • Continuously build technical knowledge relevant to the role
  • Develop, plan, organize, and administer EH&S training
  • Bring self-motivation, leadership, strong team skills, a positive attitude, and a high level of integrity
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience within a manufacturing environment, including at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Experience within a lean manufacturing environment highly preferred
  • Experience with mechanical or thermal systems highly preferred
