Job summary

Patriot Disposal is seeking a Director of Environmental, Health & Safety to lead safety strategy across divisions and drive a culture of proactive compliance. The role focuses on training, coaching, and enforcing safety standards with extensive travel across the company footprint.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years in safety leadership, strong knowledge of FMCSA/DOT regulations, and credentials such as CSP/CHST or an OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certificate. Travel 75%+ is expected.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of safety leadership in transportation, construction, manufacturing, or related industries.
• Strong written communication skills and ability to develop training materials with minimal supervision.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and safety tech platforms.
• In-depth knowledge of FMCSA and DOT regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS).
• Experience leading investigations of injuries and incidents; capable of incident command.
• Ability to influence change without direct authority.
• Safety credentials preferred (CSP/CHST or similar) or a safety-related degree.

Responsibilities

• Serve as safety SME to divisional leadership on programs, procedures and compliance.
• Design and deliver training to promote a proactive safety culture.
• Monitor implementation of safety initiatives and drive corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, FMCSA, DOT across divisions and operations.
• Lead investigations and coach supervisors on investigation quality.
• Lead emergency preparedness and act as incident command during major events.
• Collaborate with HR and operations on return-to-work and injury recovery programs.
• Conduct regular safety audits, facility walks and ride-alongs.
• Support safety communications and supervisor engagement programs.
• Assist in OSHA or DOT inspections and corporate audits.
