Patriot Disposal / Apple Valley Waste seeks a strategic Director of Environmental, Health & Safety to lead loss prevention, regulatory compliance, and a culture of safety across divisions. The role emphasizes training, coaching, and proactive safety initiatives while supporting a rapidly growing organization.

The position requires extensive travel (75%+) and a proven background in FMCSA/DOT regulations, OSHA compliance, and safety program management.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a safety professional in transportation, construction, manufacturing, or related industry.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
• Willingness to travel frequently (75%+).
• Must become Smith Systems Certified within 6 months of being in this role if not already certified.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a safety expert and consult divisional leadership on programs and compliance.
• Design, deliver, and reinforce training programs for a proactive safety culture.
• Lead investigations of serious injuries, incidents, and near-misses; coach supervisors on investigations.
• Lead emergency preparedness planning and incident command.
• Oversee documentation and regulatory recordkeeping; support OSHA/DOT inspections.
• Partner with HR, operations and maintenance on return-to-duty and injury recovery programs.
• Conduct division-level safety audits, facility walkthroughs, and ride-alongs.
• Ensure consistent safety messaging and accountability across divisions.
• Provide safety communications and toolbox talks.
