Job summary

Printpack Inc is seeking an experienced EHS Coordinator/Manager to be the site’s primary Environmental, Health, and Safety resource at our Williamsburg facility. You will provide leadership, direction, and expertise to plant management and associates, ensuring regulatory compliance, minimizing workplace risks, and driving safety excellence across manufacturing operations.

In this role, you will lead risk reduction, continuous improvement, and operational excellence while supporting a workforce

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field — OR equivalent experience.
  • Manufacturing or operations environment experience preferred.
  • OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulatory knowledge required.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety culture across all facility operations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS laws and permits.
  • Manage risk through risk assessments, audits, and preventive measures.
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate EHS training for all personnel.
  • Investigate incidents and perform root cause analyses to prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinate emergency response plans and incident documentation.
  • Build relationships with regulators, fire departments, and internal teams.
  • Maintain VPP status and drive continuous improvement in EHS programs.
  • Manage contractor safety requirements, permitting, and compliance.
  • Support injury case management and return-to-work processes.
  • Report EHS performance metrics to leadership.

Job description

Printpack is seeking a dynamic and experienced EHS Coordinator/Manager to serve as the site's primary Environmental, Health, and Safety resource at our Williamsburg facility. In this role, you will provide leadership, direction, and expertise to plant management and associates, ensuring regulatory compliance, minimizing workplace risks, and fostering a proactive culture of safety excellence across all manufacturing operations. This is an impactful individual contributor role where you'll drive strategic risk reduction, continuous improvement, and operational excellence while supporting a workforce of 100–150 associates.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead Safety Culture: Champion a proactive culture of safety, accountability, and engagement across all facility operations
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Interpret and implement federal, state, and local EHS laws; maintain compliance with environmental permits and programs (waste, wastewater, air, and other regulatory requirements)
  • Manage Risk: Lead comprehensive risk assessments, conduct facility inspections and audits, and implement preventive measures to reduce organizational exposure
  • Develop & Deliver Training: Design, deliver, and evaluate EHS training programs on safe work practices and environmental requirements for all personnel
  • Investigate Incidents: Conduct thorough root cause analyses of safety and environmental incidents; establish effective prevention methods
  • Coordinate Emergency Response: Maintain emergency response protocols and comprehensive incident documentation
  • Build Relationships: Develop collaborative working relationships with regulatory agencies, fire departments, wastewater authorities, and internal cross-functional teams
  • Maintain VPP Status: Collaborate with plant and divisional teams to maintain and advance Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) status
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Develop tools for measuring and reporting the effectiveness of safety and environmental initiatives
  • Manage Contractor Safety: Establish and oversee contractor safety requirements, permitting processes, and compliance activities
  • Support Case Management: Partner with HR and Operations on injury case management and return‑to‑work activities
  • Report & Communicate: Generate analytical reports, track trends, and communicate EHS performance metrics to all levels of the organization
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field — OR equivalent experience
  • Manufacturing or operations environment experience preferred
  • OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulatory knowledge required
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification preferred
Key Skills & Competencies
  • Strong safety leadership with the ability to influence and engage diverse teams
  • Expert knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations
  • Proven experience in risk assessment, hazard analysis, and incident investigation (root cause analysis)
  • Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and training skills
  • Proficiency in data analysis, trend identification, and compliance reporting
  • Experience with EHS management systems (ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001) and VPP programs
  • Strong understanding of industrial hygiene principles
  • Crisis management and emergency response coordination experience
  • Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal teams, management, and external regulatory agencies
  • Learning agility — ability to quickly adapt to new regulatory changes and industry best practices
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Split time between office environment and manufacturing floor
  • Typical Monday–Friday schedule; must be available for emergency response outside normal business hours
  • Exposure to manufacturing environment including industrial equipment, varying temperatures, noise above 85db, solvents, inks, and fumes
  • Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders, work on elevated platforms, and wear required PPE
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
  • Occasional travel to support locations, regulatory meetings, and training sessions
Requirements
  • Must be 18+ years old
  • Must pass pre-employment screening (drug test, background check)
