Job summary

Northwell Health seeks an EEG Technician to perform EEG recordings per standard practice, maintain test recordings, and ensure patient safety. You will interview patients, document findings, and translate procedures to alleviate anxiety before testing.

The role requires a high school diploma, completion of an EEG program, and BLS certification, with prior EEG experience preferred. You will operate and maintain EEG equipment and assist in advanced monitoring as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate from an accredited EEG program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Prior EEG experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patient to assess current physical condition.
• Abstracts relevant information for the patient's medical record.
• Translates procedures into layman's terms to relieve pre-testing anxiety.
• Sets up EEG equipment for the procedure.
• Positions patient and applies electrodes at predetermined locations.
• Checks equipment performance and selects electrode configurations.
• Operates EEG equipment to obtain tracings and removes artifacts.
• Modifies recording protocol when abnormalities occur.
• Uses activating procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation and sleep.
• Monitors other variables such as EMG, ECG, EOG and respiration.
• Responds to patient medical issues to ensure safety.
• Obtains recordings for physician interpretation.
• May assist with continuous EEG monitoring and intraoperative recording.
• Transports EEG equipment to patient rooms and departments.
• Performs routine maintenance on EEG equipment and reports malfunctions.
