Profile of a Pinkerton Educator Apprentice

An Educator Apprentice’s primary role at Pinkerton Academy is to develop into an effective classroom teacher through a structured, four-stage apprenticeship program, while fulfilling the role of paraprofessional. Across Stage 1 (Learner and Learning), Stage 2 (Instructional and Professional Practice), Stage 3 (Application of Skills and Content), and Stage 4/Culminating Stage (Pedagogy and Leadership), the apprentice systematically transitions from a paraprofessional role into student teaching. Apprentices document their observations, reflections, lesson plans, and evaluation benchmarks in a shared portfolio throughout the program. Apprentices serve as co-facilitators of learning under the coaching of assigned mentor teachers and the Dean of Faculty. They strive to foster student-centered learning environments that engage diverse learners and promote critical thinking during their on-the-job learning as paraprofessionals, while also being enrolled in an institution of higher education to complete coursework to become licensed educators.

As an active member of a department and the broader school community, a Pinkerton Educator Apprentice displays a collaborative, reflective attitude. Apprentices engage regularly with mentor teachers, department colleagues, and educators, while fulfilling their role as paraprofessionals, completing their coursework, and attending monthly after-school apprenticeship meetings. By modeling Pinkerton’s core goals of courtesy, respect, and responsibility in all interactions with students, staff, and parents, the apprentice reinforces learning as a lifelong activity and supports a positive, safe, and inclusive school culture.

Pinkerton Academy expects Educator Apprentices to exhibit the highest degree of professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment in all situations. Apprentices must maintain continuous progress in their higher education degree program, prepare for and complete required basic skills and content area assessments (Pearson), fulfill commitments outlined in individual contracts and the Employee Handbook, and uphold the New Hampshire Educator Code of Conduct and Ethics.
