Job summary

Waterville Public Schools in Maine is seeking an Educational Technician III for the Self-Contained/Day Treatment program to support students with diverse academic and behavioral needs. The role focuses on implementing IEPs, collaborating with teachers, and maintaining a structured, supportive learning environment.

Ideal candidates will have three or more years of post-secondary education or 90 credits, DOE certification, and experience with behavior management.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of post-secondary education or 90 semester hours.
• Appropriate Department of Education Certification.
• Experience working with children in a school setting.
• Training or experience in behavior management.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Ability to follow multi-step directions with educational technologies.

Responsibilities

• Works with individuals or small groups of students to provide instructional and assessment support under the general guidance of the teacher
• Consults with supervising teacher and creates/carries out lesson plans independently
• Ensures a safe environment through consistency and communication with students and staff
• Follows student plans as defined in written plans or as directed by the teacher applying approved techniques
• Conducts, records and summarizes student observations as directed
• Applies classroom rules, expectations, materials and assignments consistently
• Maintains timely and accurate records of student work completion, behavioral progress and other areas following established routines and procedures
• Prepares calendars, bulletin boards, and instructional support materials as directed
• Meets with supervising teacher on a regular basis and actively contributes to staff meetings
• Alerts teachers to changes in student behaviour or performance and makes minor adjustments to current intervention strategies
• Uses educational technologies to document or support student learning
• Performs additional duties as requested by the Building Administrator or supervising teacher
• Maintains confidentiality about all aspects of student performance and written and oral records
• Demonstrates a respect for the legal and human rights of students, staff, parents, School Board, and other community members
