Job summary

Catawba County Schools Exceptional Children - Newton, NC is seeking a Sign-Language Interpreter (DHH Educational Interpreter) to assist the Teacher of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing in supporting students aged birth to 21 with hearing loss. This non-exempt, full-time temporary role offers an hourly rate of $18.23–$25.60, no benefits, and ends on June 4, 2027.

Start date is immediate, with duties including interpreting in classrooms and collaborating with school staff to support educational

Qualifications

• AA degree in interpreting or related field.
• At least a 3.5 on the EIPA.
• Must annually complete 20 hours of professional learning related to interpreting.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates communication between the student and peers and adults in the school environment.
• Studies lesson content prior to class to ensure accurate representation of material.
• Tutors students who are deaf or hard of hearing under the direction of the teacher.
• Provides feedback to teachers upon request.
• Serves as a liaison to promote positive relationships within the school environment.
