The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI) seeks an Education Administrator for our Independence, IA campus. The role leads academic programming in a year-round school within a psychiatric hospital setting, supervising educators and aides while ensuring compliance and high-quality learning.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in school administration required.
• Five years of professional teaching experience required.
• Background check is required for consideration.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate academic programs to ensure consistent, needs-based services.
• Develop and maintain curriculum aligned with credit standards; assess programs and implement action plans.
• Manage the academic budget, review purchasing requests, and ensure compliance with grants.
• Conduct regular classroom visits to evaluate instruction, student engagement, and impact.
• Complete required state, federal, accreditation, and institutional reporting.
• Ensure safety, cleanliness, and visual appeal of instructional areas.
• Collaborate with public schools on transcripts, re-entry, and services.
• Coordinate with treatment teams to align academic and clinical goals.
• Supervise Educators and Education Aides; perform evaluations and manage staff leave.
• Provide student counseling related to discipline, transcripts, and future education.
• Participate in committees, annual training, and statewide meetings.
