The Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI), part of the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, seeks an Education Administrator to oversee all academic programming in a year-round school within a psychiatric hospital setting. Qualifications

• Completion of teaching certification requirements established by the Iowa Department of Education, including a masters degree in school administration.
• Five years of experience as a professional teacher.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate academic programs to ensure consistent, needs-based educational services.
• Develop and maintain curriculum aligned with credit standards; assess programs semi-annually and implement corrective action plans as needed.
• Manage the academic budget, review and approve purchasing requests, and ensure compliance with procurement and grant requirements.
• Conduct regular classroom visits to evaluate instruction, student engagement, and overall program impact.
• Complete required state, federal, accreditation, and institutional reporting.
• Collaborate with public schools on transcripts, student re-entry, and special services.
• Coordinate with treatment teams to align academic and clinical objectives.
• Supervise Educators and Education Aides, complete performance evaluations, manage staff leave, address disciplinary issues, and provide instructional coverage when needed.
