Job summary

Jackson County Intermediate School District is seeking an Educational Interpreter to provide interpreting assistance for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. The role includes interpreting classroom instructions, translating materials, and attending IEPs. Required qualifications include an educational interpreter associate's degree and a valid EIPA Performance score. Qualifications

• Knowledge of the problems of the deaf culture and the deaf community.
• Ability to interpret work-related information meaningfully.
• Ability to understand and get along well with hearing persons.

Responsibilities

• Interpret/transliterate communication between hearing persons and persons who are deaf or hard of hearing.
• Assist instructors by translating academic instructional material.
• Aide staff in the vocational evaluation process by interpreting standardized tests.

Skills

Knowledge of American Sign Language

Ability to fluently interpret communications

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to promote harmonious relationships

Education

Educational Interpreters' associate's degree

Valid EIPA Performance score of 4.0 or higher

Valid Michigan BEI-II certification
