JOB SUMMARY

Assists in providing safe, supportive, and reliable transportation for students with disabilities. Under the direction of District staff, works directly with students during transportation to support their individual needs, safety, independence, and successful transition to and from school and other educational settings. Provides student support consistent with individual education plans (IEPs), transportation plans, District procedures, and applicable safety requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

% of Time
80% Direct Student Support

• Supports and supervises students with disabilities during transportation to and from school, programs, community-based instruction, and other District-approved locations.
• Assists students with safely entering and exiting transportation vehicles, including support with mobility, positioning, and accessibility needs.
• Provides direct student support consistent with students' IEPs, transportation plans, behavior plans, health plans, and other individualized needs as communicated by appropriate District staff.
• Implements positive behavior support plans and responds to student behavior in accordance with District policies, procedures, and student-specific plans.
• Monitors students throughout transportation and responds appropriately to student safety, behavioral, social- emotional, communication, sensory, and physical needs.
• Assists students who may require support with activities of daily living or personal care needs during transportation, as trained and assigned.
• Communicates promptly with appropriate District staff regarding student concerns, incidents, changes in student needs, or transportation-related safety concerns.
• Maintains student confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.

15% Transportation Support

• Collaborates and communicates with drivers, teachers, case managers, related service providers, transportation staff, and other District personnel to support safe and effective student transportation.
• Assists with maintaining a safe, orderly, welcoming, and inclusive environment within transportation vehicles.
• Assists with documentation and data collection related to student transportation, behavior, safety, or IEP needs as directed.
• Supports student transitions between transportation vehicles and school sites.

5% Professional Development and Support

• Attends meetings and training as assigned which may include CPI and/or Ukeru training.
• Participates in training necessary to safely support the individual needs of assigned students.
• May provide support for other ESP positions

Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS

Education/Certification/Licensure Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Complete Personal Care Assistance Training prior to working with students.
• Completion of required professional development

Experience

• Previous experience in school/students preferred.

Physical Job Requirements

• Position involves extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and assisting students during transportation.
• Position requires the ability to enter and exit transportation vehicles and move safely within and around vehicles.
• Position may involve assisting students with mobility, positioning, transferring, and use of adaptive equipment.
• Position involves occasional lifting up to 40 pounds.
• Position involves listening, speaking clearly and visual acuity.
