Job summary

The Department of Education of the City of New York invites applications for a 2026-2027 School Aide at Metropolitan High School. The position supports teachers, monitors student activity, assists with textbooks and clerical work, and helps supervise lunch service and daily routines.

Qualifications

• No High School Diploma or GED required.
• Excellent record of attendance and punctuality.
• Demonstrated ability to work with supervisors and other school-based staff.
• Demonstrated history of good human relations.
• Demonstrated ability to efficiently carry out assignments.
• Bilingual candidates may be considered for schools with student or familial language needs.
• Ability to walk or stand for long periods of the day.
• Ability to lift objects weighing no more than 10 lbs.
• Experience working with students, preferably high school-age.
• Ability to hold high school students to high expectations.
• Team player with a strong sense of personal responsibility.
• Hard-working, urgent, and energetic.

Responsibilities

• Relieves teachers of activities not requiring teaching or professional skills.
• Relieves teachers for yard, hall, lavatory, study hall and other monitorial duties.
• Handles, stores, and distributes textbooks and instructional materials.
• Assists with routine clerical work.
• Maintains order in the lunchroom and facilitates lunch service.
• Assists in maintaining school clerical work.
• Checks reports, notes, library lists, etc.
• Manages arrival and departure of bus-transported students.
• Receives students in the lunchroom and oversees lunch procedures.
• Oversees service of lunch and disposal of refuse.
• Supervise and lead children in daily activities including entry, dismissal, lunch, and drills.
• Additional duties as requested by teachers or principals.
