Job summary

Maine Department of Education is seeking an Education Program Specialist to plan, develop, coordinate, administer, and evaluate educational programs in a statewide context.

The role involves working with local, state, and federal officials, assessing program effectiveness, and advising the State Board of Education. It requires leadership of professional staff and strong reporting abilities across complex initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Education or required specialty area and four years of professional level experience.
• Masters Degree in Education or required specialty area may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Professional teaching or educational administration certificate may be required for some positions.
• Ability to supervise subordinate professional personnel and to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Plan and develop comprehensive educational programs to meet federal and state needs.
• Direct and coordinate work of subordinate professional staff to achieve unit goals.
• Review and evaluate grant applications and advise on funding changes.
• Coordinate vocational/technical education across secondary, post-secondary, and adult levels.
• Advise Commissioner and organize workshops for local administrators and teachers.
