Job summary

National Institute for Excellence in Teaching seeks a Policy Assistant to support its education policy, advocacy, and outreach work. Reporting to the Director of Policy, the role focuses on analysis of federal and state policy on educator effectiveness, including job-embedded professional development, accountability, performance-based evaluation, compensation, and career advancement.

Qualifications

• Must reside within 25 miles of Phoenix Valley, AZ
• 3 years of policy experience preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Understanding of NIET's mission
• Proficient with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office tools
• Ability to travel
• Demonstrated ability to interact with diverse stakeholders
• Organizational and time management skills
• Eye for detail and initiative

Responsibilities

• Analyze state education policy developments and translate findings into accessible materials for educators and policymakers.
• Write clear, accurate, and engaging policy reports.
• Collaborate with staff to develop policy recommendations and messaging.
• Support advocacy campaigns with research, talking points, and background materials.
• Provide policy support on state projects and proposals.
• Develop relationships with coalition partners and legislative staff.
• Organize and support policy briefings and panels.
• Assist in developing state strategy plans and state contacts.
