Job summary

Orange County Public Schools in Orlando is seeking a paraprofessional to support teachers and students in reading, writing, and math. Under supervision, you will lead small groups, prepare instructional materials, check student work, and help manage behavior.

You may translate plans, set up classroom resources, and maintain records. Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED; additional training in child care is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; with basic mathematical and reading skills.
• Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work; attend to needs of school-age children.
• Previous vocational training or work experience in a licensed child care environment preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Responsibilities

• Monitors activities and behavior of children during and in the absence of classroom teachers to ensure safety and proper conduct.
• Assists teachers in supervising learning activities and provides small-group learning support.
• Provides instruction to students as prescribed by supervising teacher, reinforcing skills through games, stories, and activities.
• Assists in checking and evaluating students' work; teaches students individually and in small groups.
• Assists in managing student behavior and maintaining classroom order; escorts students to time out or principal's office.
• Helps prepare lesson plans and classroom activities; supports development of learning tools.
• Coordinates with media center staff for classroom resources and sets up equipment.
• Prepares classroom bulletin boards, displays, and instructional materials; manages supplies.
