Job summary

Confidential Employer in Sacramento/Oakland offers a hybrid attorney position representing educators in Education Code disciplinary proceedings and related disputes. You will handle credentialing matters, advise on employment issues, and manage a 20–30 case monthly load with experienced attorneys.

The role requires a J.D. from an ABA-accredited school and active California Bar status. Education law interest is a plus; firm values workers’ rights and professional growth.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active California Bar membership in good standing.
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Excellent judgment, communication, organization, and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to manage a substantial caseload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Labor and employment law coursework expected.
  • Education law experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience in labor and employment, plaintiff-side employment, union representation, public interest, administrative law, or related litigation is highly relevant.
  • Genuine interest in workers' rights, educators, and the labor movement.

Responsibilities

  • Represent educators in Education Code disciplinary proceedings before the Office of Administrative Hearings.
  • Handle credentialing matters before the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
  • Represent educators in disputes with school districts involving pay, classification, disability accommodations, layoffs, leaves, transfers, tort claims, and related issues.
  • Provide advice and counsel to educators on a wide range of employment and workplace matters.
  • Manage intake and an active caseload of approximately 20 to 30 cases per month.
  • Conduct legal research and develop effective case strategies.
  • Draft pleadings, briefs, legal memoranda, correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • Participate in administrative hearings, negotiations, and other proceedings.
  • Communicate directly with clients and provide thoughtful, practical legal guidance.
  • Collaborate with attorneys across the practice while independently managing assigned matters.

Location

Sacramento, CA or Oakland, CA | Hybrid schedule with three in-office days and two remote days each week.

Note
