DEPARTMENT: Community Center

POSITION TITLE: Education and Activities Coordinator

STATUS: Regular Full-Time/Non-Exempt

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Operation Manager

GENERAL STATEMENT:

FUNCTION OF POSITION:

As an Education & Youth Activities Coordinator, you will lead program development, implement relational programs for children, youth, and families, develop community relationships, recruit volunteers, plan events, and establish partnerships with churches, schools, and community organizations. Responsibilities include tutoring, monitoring assignments, developing programs, and curriculum planning.

SCHEDULE:

Monday - Friday with occasional evenings, weekends, holidays. Hours may vary during summer.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  1. HS Diploma or GED required; some college preferred. Experience may substitute education.
  2. Five years of experience working with children in educational settings.
  3. Experience in tutoring programs, planning, and scheduling recommended.
  4. Ability to read and write clearly in English.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Applicants must be at least 21 years old with a valid WA Driver License.
  2. Clear Motor Vehicle Records check required.
  3. Ability to walk 1 mile for school pickups.
  4. Must comply with child protection policies.
  5. Understanding of The Salvation Army's mission.
  6. Leadership and supervisory skills.
  7. First aid and CPR certification required within 90 days.
  8. Experience with volunteers and staff leadership.
  9. Love for children and ability to work within a budget.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative Duties:
  • Schedule and conduct program planning and evaluation meetings.
  • Recruit and train volunteers.
  • Keep management informed of programs.
Program Development:
  • Plan activities, curriculum, and learning plans.
  • Coordinate facility use and procure supplies.
  • Develop and distribute promotional materials.
Business Details:
  • Maintain enrollment records and report statistics.
  • Coordinate transportation needs.
  • Manage business items related to programs.
Driving Details:
  • Create routes and operate vehicles.
  • Ensure safety and capacity compliance.
Facility and Equipment Maintenance:
  • Ensure readiness and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
Day Camp Responsibilities:
  • Oversee registration, organize trips, and manage staff.
Computer Learning Center Responsibilities:
  • Oversee scheduling, programming, and equipment.
Christmas Responsibilities:
  • Assist with Kettle drives and sign-ups.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Quick learner, leadership, communication skills, teamwork, confidentiality, and de-escalation skills.
SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, data entry, and internet skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, operate a vehicle, and lift 20 lbs.
