Nature Portfolio is seeking an Editorial Director for Life Sciences to guide a portfolio of journals, lead chief editors, and drive growth across global journals. The role requires strategic vision, strong leadership, and a data-informed approach to publishing excellence.

You will work across Nature Portfolio leadership to define strategy, develop expertise, and advocate for the journal family while managing a high-performance editorial team in a global context.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in scientific, academic, or scholarly publishing with editorial leadership.
• Proven leadership of managers and high-performing teams.
• Experience shaping strategy, growth, and performance of journals or portfolios.
• Strong understanding of the research community and stakeholders.
• Proven ability to attract and develop talent in an inclusive culture.
• Strong analytics skills to inform decisions with data and market insights.
• Experience identifying opportunities for portfolio development and sustainable growth.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management across a complex org.
• Sound judgment to lead through ambiguity and competing priorities.
• Advanced degree in a relevant discipline.

Responsibilities

• Lead Chief Editors and editorial teams to deliver high-quality journals and strong author experience.
• Use data analytics to drive performance and strategic decisions.
• Champion workflow improvements and adoption of new tools for journal activity.
• Manage relationships across Nature Portfolio and Springer Nature to align objectives.
• Understand trends and opportunities to support portfolio growth.
• Contribute to strategic development and advocacy for Nature Portfolio.
• Stay informed on market trends to guide investments and priorities.
• Motivate leaders and teams to achieve strategic and commercial goals.
• Coach Chief Editors in leadership, talent development, and succession planning.
• Promote subject-area visibility and inclusion in strategic initiatives.
