Job summary

PLOS is seeking an Editorial Leader to oversee a subset of journals, including PLOS Biology and PLOS Medicine. You will manage Editors-in-Chief, shape editorial strategy, and work with global communities to advance open science.

You will lead a diverse team across international journals, manage budgets, and partner with boards and in-house colleagues to drive journal growth and high-quality content.

Qualifications

• PhD and post-doctoral experience (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area.
• Substantial editorial experience (5+ years) with progressively increased managerial responsibility in STM publishing.
• Track record in managing a group of successful journals and teams distributed internationally.
• Proven commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in science and scholarly publication.

Responsibilities

• Develop editorial strategy for a portfolio of journals that supports Open Science and community engagement.
• Identify opportunities to expand the portfolio in line with PLOS strategy.
• Oversee attainment of multi-term performance metrics for journals.
• Manage annual budgets with the Publishing Director and ensure efficient resource allocation.
• Oversee editorial workflows, systems and reporting with Operations.
• Collaborate with Marketing to promote content and drive submissions.
• Ensure cohesive editorial policies across journals and lead cross-journal initiatives.
• Represent PLOS at industry events and participate in DEI activities.
