Job summary

Nature Portfolio is seeking an Associate or Senior Editor for Nature Communications (Human Behaviour team) in a hybrid role based in New York, with possible collaboration across Shanghai or Pune. The US base salary ranges from $80,000 to $95,000 depending on seniority and experience.

The successful candidate will manage original manuscripts, drive editorial standards, and work closely with authors, reviewers, and internal teams to shape impactful, open-access science communication.

Qualifications

• PhD (or equivalent) in political science, economics, or related field.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; fluent in English.
• Willingness to travel and engage with researchers worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Handle original manuscript submissions with rigorous evaluation for quality, novelty, and suitability for publication.
• Drive editorial excellence by ensuring accurate, consistent, and timely publication processes.
• Collaborate with authors and reviewers to maintain a rigorous and transparent review process.
• Represent the journal within the scientific community and understand emerging trends and publishing needs.
• Contribute to editorial policies, peer review practices, and publishing processes to uphold scientific integrity.
• Build trusted partnerships with internal and external stakeholders while managing competing priorities.
• Partner with the Chief Editor to execute the journal's development strategy and identify growth opportunities.
• Drive content development by attracting high-quality submissions and commissioning reviews and collections.
• Develop compelling scientific content to showcase published research and promote knowledge exchange.
