Job summary

Global Payments is seeking a Network Security Engineer to join the Edge & Network Security team. The role focuses on web application firewall, edge security, and application protection platforms across a global enterprise.

Approximately 80% of time on implementation, tuning, and operational improvements; ~20% on incident mitigation and response. Hybrid work arrangement in Cincinnati, Alpharetta, or Columbus offices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, networking, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5 years of experience in network security, application security, edge security, security operations, or related role.
• Hands-on experience with WAF or application protection technologies (Akamai, Cloudflare)
• Experience onboarding apps, policy implementation, traffic analysis, rule tuning, exception handling, troubleshooting, false positives reduction.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP/S, TLS, DNS, proxies, load balancing, NAT, routing, and edge security concepts.

Responsibilities

• Support operation and continuous improvement of WAF and edge security platforms (application, API, bot protection).
• Configure and tune Akamai, Cloudflare, or similar platforms (WAF policies, rules, rate limiting, bot controls, security analytics).
• Onboard internet-facing applications and implement protections, exceptions, and allow/block controls.
• Analyze traffic, logs, and security events to identify threats, configuration issues, false positives, and policy improvements.
• Troubleshoot WAF blocks, app access, TLS/certificates, DNS, proxies, and edge security issues.
• Implement and validate changes using testing, peer-review, rollback, and change-management processes.
• Support incident response, maintain runbooks, and collaborate across teams.
