Job summary

Block is building a security-focused edge analytics platform to understand and mitigate threats across our global network. We rely on WAF rules, bot vendors, and CDN-native tools to protect traffic entering our systems.

Your work will span data pipelines, ML labeling, and cross-team collaboration to strengthen API security and trustworthiness. You will engage with technologies across Java, Kotlin, Python, TypeScript, and PySpark, as well as Cloudflare/AWS ecosystems, delivering scalable security

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software or security engineering experience
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• Proficient in Java, Kotlin, TypeScript, and Python
• Proficient in data analysis using SQL and Spark
• Experience with CDN (Cloudflare and Fastly) and AWS ecosystems
• Familiarity with Snowflake, Databricks, and Datadog would be a strong plus

Responsibilities

• Respond and mitigate emerging threats at the network edge using WAF rules, bot vendors, and CDN technologies
• Build infrastructure to inventory network edge security posture
• Develop near-real-time streaming analytics data pipeline and application
• Contribute to labeling and ML model development
• Maintain build, deployment, and production monitoring across systems
• Work across languages (Java, Kotlin, Python, TypeScript, PySpark) as needed
• Evaluate integrations with vendor systems and in-house solutions
• Develop AI-driven capabilities to classify and mitigate abusive traffic patterns
• Experience with bot/fraud detection and mitigation is a strong plus
