Job summary

Laminar in Somerville, MA is hiring a Software Engineer, Edge Platform to build the software infrastructure behind Laminar’s edge computing platform. You will develop Linux-based software, automate system setup, and improve deployment and management on edge devices and factory servers.

You’ll own well‑defined components, take initiative, and contribute to scalable solutions while collaborating with senior engineers and the broader team. A strong Linux background is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher in CS/Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong Linux experience with command line, permissions, processes and logs.
• Experience programming in Python, Rust, C++, or Go; shell scripting.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals: IP, DNS, ports, TCP/IP.
• Experience with Docker, VMs, systemd or Linux server is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Software Development: build and maintain Linux services, scripts, and tools for edge platform.
• System Provisioning: automate setup and configuration of edge computers and factory servers.
• Application Deployment: package, test, and deploy apps using containers and VMs.
• Industrial Connectors: implement/test integrations for Modbus TCP/IP, Profinet, OPC UA, CC‑Link, EtherNet/IP.
• Platform Reliability: software updates, logging, monitoring, and recovery capabilities.
• Debugging & Testing: investigate failures, networking issues, and resource usage; write tests.
• Edge AI Integration: support ML inference workloads on edge hardware.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: work with senior engineer and broader team to deliver features.
• Documentation: maintain setup instructions, technical docs, and troubleshooting guides.
