Job summary

Bascom Hunter is seeking an AI/ML Engineering Intern in Baton Rouge, LA to support model development, optimization, deployment, and productization for aerospace and defense applications. You will work on full ML lifecycle tasks from data prep to evaluation, enabling edge deployment and scalable inference solutions.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, AI/ML, Mathematics, or related field.
• Experience programming in Python.
• Understanding of fundamental ML concepts: training, validation, testing, and evaluation.
• Familiarity with at least one ML framework such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work with technical datasets and interpret experimental results.
• Self-motivated with interest in emerging tech.
• Strong written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, train, evaluate, and improve custom ML models for aerospace, defense, and engineering applications.
• Optimize and prune models for edge deployment and resource-constrained hardware.
• Convert and deploy models using ONNX; explore integration into non-Python environments.
• Gain experience with neuromorphic computing approaches such as BrainChip Akida frameworks.
• Use ML tooling (MLflow, DVC, MinIO) for experiment tracking and data management.
• Develop inference microservices and transition prototypes to scalable, high-performance apps (Go, Rust).
• Implement testing and software engineering practices to improve reliability of AI/ML apps.
• Containerize applications with Docker and deploy in Kubernetes-based environments.
• Explore computer vision, RF, SAR, and sensor datasets for defect detection and analysis.
• Document model development, experiments, results, deployment processes, and findings.
