Job summary

Bascom Hunter is seeking an AI/ML Engineering Intern in Baton Rouge, LA to support the development, optimization, deployment, and productization of machine learning models for aerospace and defense applications.

You will gain hands-on experience across the full ML lifecycle—from data preparation and model training to deployment, MLOps, inference, and performance evaluation—while collaborating with a multidisciplinary engineering team and exploring edge AI, containerization with Docker and

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field.
• Experience programming in Python.
• Understanding ML concepts including model training, validation, testing, and performance evaluation.
• Familiarity with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work with technical datasets and interpret experimental results.
• Self-motivated with an interest in researching and applying emerging technologies.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Develop, train, evaluate, and improve custom ML models for aerospace, defense, and engineering applications.
• Model optimization and pruning to reduce size and computation for edge deployment.
• Convert and deploy models using ONNX and related formats.
• Gain experience with neuromorphic computing approaches.
• Use ML tooling for experiment tracking, dataset management, and versioning.
• Develop inference microservices and scalable, high-performance applications.
