Job summary

Volusia County Schools' After School Program in Orange City seeks an EDEP Group Leader to enrich students' educational, emotional and physical well-being. You will supervise groups, coordinate activities, and ensure safety during assigned hours, reporting to the Site Lead.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, experience working with children, CPR/First Aid certification, and ability to communicate effectively with students and families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience coordinating activities for children (volunteer or paid).
• Must hold or obtain First Aid/CPR within first year of employment.
• STAR substitute training within one year of hire preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain thorough knowledge of all program phases and job requirements.
• Complete tasks, follow procedures, and adhere to policies.
• Establish and maintain good judgment in support of the program.
• Remain in the program area during assigned hours unless directed elsewhere.
• Communicate positively with students, parents, school staff and Site Lead.
• Follow emergency procedures: fire drills, severe weather, evacuation and others as needed.
• Attend required in-service and staff development sessions (CPR, GSM, etc.).
• Participate in periodic staff meetings and workshops.
• Ensure proper supervision at all times.
• Keep work area neat and conducive to constructive play for the age group.
• Coordinate activities with volunteers assigned to the group.
• Carry out assigned group activities.
• Demonstrate punctuality and attendance.
• Notify Site Lead/Principal of absences in a timely manner in writing if required.
• Maintain equipment and materials in good condition.
• Encourage parental involvement.
• Perform general housekeeping duties for the program as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Site Lead.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain a thorough knowledge of all phases of the program and job.
• Successfully complete appropriate tasks and follow procedures and policies.
• Establish and maintain good judgment in support of the program.
• Remain in the program area during assigned hours unless specifically assigned duty elsewhere.
• Establish and maintain positive communication with students, parents, school staff and Site Lead.
• Become familiar with the program site and follow the directions for all emergency procedures: fire drills, severe weather drill, emergency evacuation procedures and others as needed.
• Successfully complete in-service and staff development sessions as required (CPR, GSM, etc. . .).
• Attend and participate in required periodic staff meetings and/or workshops.
• Ensure proper supervision at all times.
• Maintain work area in a neat, clean manner conducive to constructive play appropriate to the age group.
• Coordinate activities with volunteers working with his/her group of children.
• Effectively carry out assigned group activities.
• Establish and maintain promptness and attendance.
• Notify the Site Lead and/or Principal/Administrator in a timely manner of the need to be absent. This notification may be required in writing.
• Ensure the equipment and materials are arranged, available, and maintained in good condition.
• Encourage parental involvement.
• Perform general housekeeping duties for the program as assigned.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Site Lead.

Required Qualifications/Certifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Hold a High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent
• Experience in working effectively with and managing organized activities for children (volunteer or paid)
• Holds current certification or will successfully complete the following course during the first year of employment: First Aid/CPR
• Successful completion of the Volusia County Schools substitute teacher training course (STAR) within one (1) year of date of hire is preferred
