Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA seeks a Safety Partner to help create a safe environment for patients at risk of suicide, falls, wandering, agitation, and self-harm. The role is full-time with an evening shift (11:00 AM–11:00 PM) and requires completing a Safety Partner Training course if no prior health sciences experience.

The position includes BLS within 90 days, de-escalation and safety responsibilities, and optional bonuses tied to performance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• Healthcare experience preferred; if none, complete Sentara Safety Partner Training during orientation.
• De-escalation and physical intervention training within 30 days of hire (15 days for Behavioral Health).

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintaining a safe hospital environment for patients at risk of suicide, falls, wandering, agitation, impulsiveness, self-harm or other risk behaviors.
• Support de-escalation and patient safety during shifts and respond to behavioral health concerns as needed.
• Follow core competencies: communication, confidentiality, fall prevention, restraints, and stroke care.

Core competencies for all safety partners to include communication, confidentiality, de-escalation, fall prevention, patient safety, restraints, stroke, and suicide.
