Job summary

Sentara Health's Emergency Department in Norfolk, VA seeks a qualified Emergency Department Technician to join the on-site team. This full-time role (36 hours/week) supports physicians and nurses in delivering care to emergency and minor emergency patients, with mid shifts from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

Candidates with EMT-B certification or equivalent and BLS are encouraged to apply. Prior ED tech or military medical training is considered an asset.

Qualifications

• Emergency Department Technician role requires EMT-B or military hospital corps/clinical program eligibility.
• Minimum education includes a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Current BLS certification and de-escalation training are preferred or required within timeframes.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians, advanced practitioners, or nurses with care plans.
• Perform patient procedures and treatments under supervision.
• Support in emergency and minor emergency patient care scenarios.

Performs patient procedures and treatments under the supervision of the Physician, Advanced Practitioner, or Nurse.De-escalation and physical intervention training within 15 days of hire.BLS certification within 90 days of hire for all incumbents.EducationHigh School Diploma or equivalentCertification/LicensureNew incumbents must have one of the following in addition to the minimum Education :1. EMT-B with state or national certification at time of hire OR2. Successful completion of US Military Hospital Corps School, qualified MMAC candidates OR3. Current student enrolled in clinical program (e.g., RN, LPN, Respiratory, Physical Therapy) having completed at least one semester within the program.Candidates with prior employment in the Sentara ED tech job code in the past two years will also be considered in lieu of the 3 criteria above.ExperiencePrevious clinical experienceWe provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $20.07 - $29.88 hourly. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
