Job summary

UPMC Northwest is seeking an Emergency Department Patient Services Representative to greet patients, explain financial obligations, and collect payments in a fast-paced ED environment.

The role requires accuracy in ADT/EMR registrations, coordination with clinical partners, and professional, calm communication with patients and staff. Evening hours with rotating weekends/holidays are typical.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2 years of healthcare experience or 1 year in medical/billing/fiscal setting or 6 months in a UPMC Patient Access position preferred.
• Medical terminology knowledge and understanding of managed care regulations are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients on arrival and educate them about copayments and financial obligations.
• Register patients accurately into ADT or clinical systems during downtime with reconciliation.
• Coordinate benefits and verify insurance eligibility for a smooth billing process.
• Collect and record patient payments including co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles.
• Maintain patient confidentiality under HIPAA and obtain necessary consent forms.
