Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a patient care assistant to join the 36-hour night shift team. You will work under the supervision of a registered nurse to help patients with daily living activities, ensuring comfort and safety while supporting infection control practices.

Responsibilities include taking vital signs, assisting with meals, and documenting observations. No prior experience is required, but BLS certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Education: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Licensure, Certification, Registration: Basic Life Support (BLS) required; must obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Basic reading/writing and four-function math.
• Knowledge: Medical terminology, basic computer skills, interpersonal skills.
• Experience: None.

Responsibilities

• Cares for patients as delegated by the registered nurse and completes activities of daily living.
• Vital Signs: may take and record vital signs, height/weight, oxygen saturation, report unusual observations.
• Intake and Output: collects specimens and records intake and output.
• Nutrition: assists with meals and room service setup.
• Safety and Infection Control: adheres to safety and infection control policies.
• Sitter: assist as patient safety attendant after competency.
• Orientation: assists with orientation of new nursing assistants.
• Performs other unit-based duties as assigned.
