Job summary

Sinclair Community College invites applications for Economics - Prison Education - Part-Time (Adjunct) Faculty to teach at Ohio correctional facilities. The position offers $1,046 per credit hour assigned and requires an Ohio-resident or eligible to work in Ohio, Indiana, or Kentucky.

This role supports our prisoner education program across multiple campuses. Responsibilities include teaching curriculum created by the department, planning instruction to maximize learning, preparing syllabi, and

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in economics or a Master’s degree with at least 18 semester credit hours of graduate coursework in economics.
  • Evidence of successful prior teaching experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the course and program level.
  • Proficient communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a diverse college community.
  • Proficiency with modern educational technology, including multimedia-based instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare syllabi for all assigned sections in accordance with department policies.
  • Employ instructional technology as appropriate to support teaching and learning.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.

  • Pickaway Correctional – Columbus (Orient), Ohio
  • Southeastern Correctional – Lancaster, Ohio
  • Ross Correctional – Chillicothe, Ohio

The starting pay for Adjunct Faculty is $1,046 per credit hour assigned to teach. For the full list of available courses to teach, please explore our course catalog.

This position is open only to applicants who reside in Ohio, Indiana, or Kentucky, or who are able to perform work within one of these states. Sinclair Community College restricts part-time employment to approved states due to employment, tax, and benefits compliance requirements.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Adjunct faculty teach curriculum developed by the department
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning
  • Prepare and provide syllabi for all assigned sections in accordance with department and divisional policies
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies, use available instructional technology when appropriate
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students’ needs
  • Support classroom and online efforts to promote student success
  • Evaluate and return student work in a timely manner to promote learning
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress
  • Submit final grade rosters according to established deadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Adjunct Faculty cannot be assigned to teach more than the maximum of 12 credit hours per semester
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Minimum of a master’s degree in economics required; or a master’s degree with at least 18 semester credit hours of graduate coursework in economics required
  • Evidence of successful prior teaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the course and program level
  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills with the capacity to work successfully in a diverse college community
  • Must possess demonstrated skills in using modern educational technology, including multimedia-based instruction

Official transcripts for all post-secondary degrees (if applicable) and successful completion of a background check will be required prior to date of hire.
