Job summary

Waukesha County’s Department of Health & Human Services is recruiting an Economic Support Specialist to determine eligibility for FoodShare, Medical Assistance, BadgerCare and Child Care in a busy call center. Strong customer service and clear written communication are essential as you document casework for members.

This sunset position is funded for an initial two-year term with possible extension based on funding.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, substitution of post-high school education for work experience allowed.
  • Three years of post-high school work experience in financial counseling, analysis or planning or related fields.
  • Ability to determine eligibility for FoodShare, Medical Assistance, BadgerCare and Child Care.

Work Assignment Details

Waukesha County's Department of Health & Human Services is recruiting for a talented Economic Support Specialist. Economic Support Specialists perform work determining eligibility for public assistance programs including FoodShare, Medical Assistance, BadgerCare, and Child Care. This work is performed through a call center environment in a multi-county consortium, requiring strong customer service skills to assist clients effectively, provide accurate information, and ensure a positive experience during interactions. Additionally, good written communication skills are essential for accurately documenting casework and corresponding with members.

This position is a sunset position and is funded through an initial two-year term. Any extension or continuation beyond that term is subject to future funding availability and approval and is not guaranteed.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) years of post high school work experience in financial counseling, analysis or planning; child support, paralegal work, economic assistance, independent research or investigation, counseling in a human service agency, interpreting and applying complex rules or regulations, or related work experience.
  • Post high school education from a recognized college or university may be substituted for the work experience on a year-for-year basis.
