Job summary

The Senior Policy Analyst at New York City Economic Development Corporation will conduct research and data analysis to deepen understanding of NYC’s economy and inform policy. You will own recurring workstreams such as population and labor market monitoring, affordability research, and monthly indicators, turning data into clear insights.

You’ll contribute to flagship publications, manage projects, and present findings to internal and external audiences, with strong emphasis on accuracy,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Urban Planning, Public Policy, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• 3+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 2+ years.
• Proficiency in R and advanced Excel; experience with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; reproducible code.
• Experience with public microdata (ACS/PUMS, CPS, QCEW) is a plus.
• Spatial data and GIS experience is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to convey complex analyses clearly.
• Ability to create clear charts, tables, and data visualizations.
• New York City residency required within 180 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Research, prepare data, and draft internal policy briefs and external reports.
• Maintain recurring analyses of NYC’s economy, including population, labor market, and neighborhood trends.
• Analyze data from Census, BLS, and other sources to generate insights on industries and demographics.
• Respond to ad-hoc data requests from internal teams and City Hall staff.
• Support fiscal and economic impact modeling for real estate projects and policy changes.
• Benchmark NYC against peer cities and research policies from other jurisdictions.
• Review complex spreadsheets and code to ensure data accuracy.
• Contribute to data sources and best practices for the department.
• Identify research topics and present findings to stakeholders.
• Monitor external trends and share key findings with leadership.
