Job summary

Description
Position Overview:

Responsible for administrating, coordinating, and monitoring the implementation of Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) from approval through production release and closure. In addition, maintaining PFEP (Plan For Every Part) Inventory Control system, assuring integrity of item master fields, and sustaining location and material presentation accuracy throughout the plant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Create and update item master data for new and obsolete part numbers.
  • Create and update standard BOM (bill of materials) in the inventory control computer system based on the information from the ECN documentation and/or engineering drawings.
  • Ensure material is available to support an ECN / Launch including purchased materials and parts made in house.
  • Track material usage for parts that are phased out as a result of ECNs and ensure availability of replacement parts.
  • Coordinate material availability to support engineering trial builds.
  • Maintain and present the status of open ECNs.
  • Assists in locating and transacting excess and obsolete inventory, related to ECNs.
  • Oversee timely completion of responsibilities related to implementing ECNs for all functional departments, according to ISO procedures and instructions, and maintain database of implementation tasks, including actions required, responsibility, and required completion dates.
  • Work with all levels of the organization to establish “Best Practices and Methods” in implementing engineering changes in the plant.
  • Publish weekly and monthly reports of ECN backlog, critical path tasks, and tasks which require special attention.
  • Assist in execution of PFEP (Plan for Every Part) for purchased codes and subassemblies, and the maintenance of same, which includes the buy order card system, kanban card system, and subassembly scheduling card process.
  • Identifies component locations, min/max quantities, bin sizes, and replenishment strategies, for material stored at plant production lines. Maintains information database for same on the Company’s business information system.
  • Ensure obsolete material is removed from production lines and all storage locations, dispositioned appropriately, and locations updated in company’s business information system.
  • Ensure new materials, including purchased materials and make parts, resulting from ECN changes or new product launches, are available in the appropriate work cells and locations updated in company’s business information system.
  • Maintain plant inventory location identification system and assure all material locations are consistent with the system.
  • Maintain storage rack and bin identification and labeling system and assure all bins and storage locations are consistent with the system.
  • Coordinate activities to support material storage at production lines, supermarkets, central, and in the warehouse.
  • Process PFEP Change Request forms in a timely manner to assure item master and PFEP database information is current.
  • Audit purchase part Kanban cards, supermarket safety stock, and subassembly Kanban cards to ensure the correct quantity is being maintained and the cards are used correctly. Record the results of these audit and provide updates to management on the status.
  • May be assigned other duties as deemed appropriate by management.
Requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.
  • Ability to use MS Excel and Access software efficiently and experience with company inventory control system software.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Requires good people skills, the ability to act with a sense of urgency and good problem‑solving skills. Must be proactive, show initiative and be a good team player. Must be able to multi‑task and interface with multiple organization levels and departments. Must be detail oriented.
  • Two-year degree in Business, Engineering Technology, or related curriculum.
  • Three or more years’ experience in manufacturing or project management.
  • Combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Lean Manufacturing experience preferred.
