Job summary

Pitt County Schools seeks an Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher – Extended Content Standards to deliver instruction aligned with the NC ECS framework. The role focuses on academics, functional skills, communication, and independent living within IEP requirements and state regulations.

The teacher develops IEPs, adapts curriculum, uses evidence-based strategies, and collaborates with general educators and related service providers to support transition and life skills in inclusive settings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's preferred).
• Valid North Carolina teaching license in Special Education or eligibility to obtain licensure.
• Strong skills in data collection, differentiation, and behavior support.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement IEPs aligned with NC Extended Content Standards.
• Provide individualized instruction in academics, functional skills, communication, and daily living.
• Adapt curriculum and materials to meet diverse learning needs.
• Utilize evidence-based practices and systematic instruction (e.g., task analysis, prompting, modeling).
• Integrate real-world and community-based instruction when appropriate.
• Support development of independence, self-advocacy, and transition skills.
• Serve as case manager for assigned students.
• Ensure IEPs, progress reports, and documentation comply with IDEA and NC policies.
• Collaborate with general education teachers and related service providers.
