Job summary

PowerSchool in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seeks an Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant to support EC students under supervision. You will help implement IEP goals, assist the classroom teacher, and supervise students in various settings.

Responsibilities include instructional support, data collection, preparing materials, and assisting with transportation duties. Strong knowledge of EC needs and ability to work with diverse learners is essential.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree, 2 years of higher education, or equivalent training.
• Pass WorkKeys and 96 hours in-service training.
• Completion of NC Teacher Assistant Apprenticeship Program.

Responsibilities

• Assist children individually or in small groups to master assignments and reinforce learning concepts.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums.
• Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
• Discuss assigned duties with the classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.
• Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries.
• Collect data to document individual student progress toward IEP goals.
• Present subject matter to students under the direction of teachers using various delivery methods.
• Assist with checking materials and portfolios, correcting papers, supervising, and testing as directed.
• Assist with student attendance procedures, record keeping, and organizing classroom spaces.
• Prepare lesson materials, bulletin boards, displays, equipment, and demonstrations.
• Participate in daily bus, car and van transportation duties.
• Assist during drills, field trips and school functions.
• Provide physical assistance to students as needed in self-help, clothing, toileting, and feeding.
• Support therapists and teachers in related duties.
• Assist students with note-taking and writing during activities.
• Lift and position students and assist with mobility as needed.
• Participate in professional development and meetings.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
