Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seeks an Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant (part-time EOY w/exchange 26-27) in Charlotte, NC. The role supports the assigned teacher and EC students, assisting with IEP goals and access to general education as needed.

The ideal candidate will have the required education, be able to work under supervision, and engage in various instructional support activities across classrooms and during bus/field activities.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and laws pertaining to exceptional children.
  • Knowledge of current technology and alternate forms of communication for disabilities.
  • Knowledge of classroom management and differentiation techniques.
  • Knowledge of IEP processes and learning strategies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist children individually or in small groups to master assignments and reinforce concepts.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums.
  • Discuss duties with the classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Prepare lesson materials and classroom displays.
  • Participate in daily bus, car, and van transportation duties.
