Job summary

KIPP North Carolina in Durham seeks an Exceptional Children (EC) 1:1 Assistant to provide individualized instructional and mobility support to a student with a disability as defined by the IEP. The role ensures safe access to instruction and active participation in the general education environment.

This is an educational support position, not nursing. You will collaborate with the supervising teacher and EC staff, follow IEP plans, assist with routines and transitions, maintain privacy, and

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or relevant college coursework preferred.
• Experience working with children or adolescents, particularly students with disabilities, preferred.
• Ability to follow an IEP and directions from teachers and EC staff.
• Ability to complete student-specific training related to mobility, transfers and safety as applicable.
• Ability to maintain student confidentiality and protect student privacy and dignity.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Dependable attendance and consistent support throughout the school day.
• Ability to meet physical requirements with reasonable accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized support in accordance with the student’s IEP and other educational plans.
• Support access to and participation in general education curriculum and classroom environment.
• Assist with classroom routines, materials, and instructional activities.
• Reinforce instructional strategies and skills from teachers and related-service providers.
• Support the student in developing independence with minimal adult assistance.
• Assist with mobility and safe movement throughout the school environment.
